Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT): Child/Adolescent Counseling
Discover your child's hidden solutions and talents

"Happiness is a state of mind. It's all according to how you look at things".
- Walt Disney
Once a parent discovers what they do well then the children benefit. Once children discover their talents then the parents benefit.
Adolescents (10-17):
Usually it is the behavior of an adolescent in the family the leads the parents to seek help to resolve a family problem. Usually these adolescents have learned to view themselves as the root of the problem in the family and behave in a way that validates that view. These behaviors often involve poor school performance, non-compliant behaviors, poor decision making, among other deviant behaviors.
My role is to help the adolescent "restory" themselves and see that they are something other than the problem. By discovering their role as part of the solution possibilities become open and new behaviors quickly begin to appear to replace the previous undesired behavior. This also often leads to an increase in self-esteem and the discovery of their true potential.
Often times as part of the "restorying" process the entire family is involved so that all members of the family become part of the adolescent's new view of themselves. This allows the family to see the adolescent in a new way creating a new trust and high level expectation that the family now feels able to accomplish.

Children (3-10):
In addition to the things mentioned above, when working with children of this age group my approach is to work with the family as a whole as well as with the children. This due to the fact that to truly impact the behaviors of children in this age group their must be a systemic change. These include parenting, sibling relationships, and other family dynamics that when changed, may alter the everyone's behavior to a more desirable pattern.
